Serious attempts at time wasting.

Alright folks, here's the deal. I'm supposed to be writing an essay right? But I'm not (at least not right now [don't worry, it's sort of almost done]). Instead I have been investigating an idea that had been bouncing around my head for a while now. I'm starting to seriously consider the life of a painter, for whatever reason. Essentially it is the only thing that I can picture myself, at this point in time, doing for the rest of my life without getting bored with it. And that is really the best I can do for an explanation right now.

AAAAAanyways, my point is that if I'm into this whole art crap deal I think I'm going to have to eventually dip my toe into exhibiting some work. Effin scary. The VAV gallery (for non Concordia Fine Arts students thats the student art gallery) is accepting submissions for the winter/spring 2008 season and I am considering submitting some work. I am scared shitless (Firefox does not consider shitless a word... hah.) at the very idea. First of all, I can't really think of a common theme in all my paintings that I would talk about in an artist's statement. Second of all, I can't really think of enough paintings or drawings or anything that I am satisfied with that I would want to exhibit. I am terrified that whoever reads these will scoff at my very attempt to submit work. I can just see it now... "what the hell is this girl thinking? Why on earth would we show THIS?

.....

FUUUUUUCK ........

Anyways, I keep telling myself that the worst thing that could happen is that they say no.

Right?

....

My stomach is in knots even thinking about it.....

I picked up a form. I am considering it and I kind of suck compared to you. Honestly, you have this way about painting...the whole process of application and the overall feel that a lot of people can't do.

Your artists statement should say something about how you explore your subconscious through random mark making.

Yeah...that hasn't been done.

You hit the nail exactly on the head em..

It really is the worst thing that could happen.

You should show us what you plan on sending beforehand so as to run your choices through a semblance of a pseudo-self-validation process :)

If you want to be an artist you've got to start somewhere. From what I've seen and heard your work is superior anyways. So submit into the exhibit and in the meantime keep painting so you can submit again next season, or even to galleries around the city.

You'll have a ball.

Just do it!

Your work all has the same painterly style to it and that's more than most can say [or at least I can].

You are talented, go for it!
