so i went skiing this morning.
my wonderful little brother is a TA(teaching assistant) at the ski hill and had to be there for 8. which means *I* had to be there for 8. which means we had to leave at 7:30, which means i had to get up at 7. on a SUNDAY...
a SUNDAY!!!!!
*ahem* anyways, this morning upon beying woken up i dont think i had EVER wanted to stay in bed so much. our house was the steamy temperature of 16 degrees celcius which didnt agree with me. hearing how cold it was supposed to be today, i doubled up on the clothing.... no, i actually quadrupled up. lets go through the list shall we?
t-shirt
turlteneck
sweatshirt
fleece sweater
fleece pants
sweatpants
and on top of all of this i had my snow suit. and here's the kicker, despite this abnormal amount of clothing that would normally cause me to sweat a month's worth of sweat in about 5 minutes, i was cold. COLD. ugh.... people, here's a little fact about me. i hate the cold. absolutly despise it. it makes me miserable. the only reason i enjoy winter is for the skiing. if someone could invent a sport that had all the fun of skiing without the snow i would be the happiest person on earth. well... maybe not but id be a whole lot happier then i am now.
the other day i was forced into going snow shoeing with my gym class. i say forced because i do not view straping short chunk of plastic (or rawhide and wood if you're doing things the old fashion way) and walking in the snow for two hours as a FUN activity. nevertheless, if i was forced to do it, i'd do it in warmth (for the above stated reasons) and so i, once again, layered up. so we set out, some well dressed, others not. i was fine except on my face which had no protection for this wind that seemed to be determined to kill every living skin cell within reach. i must say, it started out pretty unpromising. we walked single file along this narrow path through uninteresting feilds that even IF they had been interesting, we wouldnt have notice because we were too busy trying to keep our eyeballs from freezing shut. once we got into the forest however, things got interesting. for the most part, me and mr alex wolski were entertaining ourselves at the back of the line trying to find the words in which to describe how completly and utterly this SUCKED. our insane teacher replacement( because eric andersen is too lazy to take us ourselves), stan cain, decides to drag us up this narrow path in some sort of ravine up some sort of cliff. this was certainly more fun than the feild until a certain someone (who i will not name) becomes frustrated with her ineffective showshoes and strips them off and runs back down the hill in tears. her friend decides to go after her, leaving the shoes on the path in the snow. our brave and valiant back leader (the guy who is supposed to make sure everyone follows in one piece), shandon lomoro (however this is spelt), turns around just in time to see the two of them run away and proclaims in his trully heroic fashion: "what the fuck just happened?!?" by this time the rest of the class has dissapear over the top of the rise. so alex takes the snowshoes and runs after the girls to get THEM to bring it back to school since that seemed to be where they were headed. shandon ran up ahead to get them to stop. i stood there in confusion, not knowing where to go. i looked up the path: no one. i looked down the path: no one. i kind of stood there for a bit undecided until alex came back and stan showed up wondering where we all were. we had to hurry up the hill (which was quite steep and tiring) to catch up. eventually we found them all but jeanne marie was now our backleader assisted by jen. following the path seemed to be extremely boring, we decided to forge our own which mostly involved finding as many cliffs as possible and jumping off of them into the snow. muchos funos. all in all, the return trip was quite a bit of fun.
snowshoeing is STILL not something i'd do on a regular basis for personal enjoyment.
well, i came home early from skiing to do some homework so i suppose i should get started.
OH! i almost forgot. my snowshoeing expedition resulted in a nicely frostbitten ear. fun eh? in about a week from now, when my ear is shedding like a lizard, you'll know why.
