as all of you may or may not have read, our good friend Tyler had a few things to say about music preferences. i had a few things to add/disagree on. im hoping tyler knows this is not a personal attack and more of a discussion. i mean no offense.
first of all, yes. i hate it when people are judged on their music. of recent times the most popular target is "emo". yes, i will admit, i do like some music that one might call "emo". but thats not the point. the word, in some circles, has practically become a slander (actually, cross out the practically, is outright is). and i for one, think that that's ridiculous. and this applies for any music. im not here to debate its validity. everyone can decide that for themselves. however, the type of music someone listens to does not change the type of person they are. and this is where i disagree with tyler. i dont think you can tell what type of person you have on your hands, simply by analysing their music. simply because musci IS so personal and any opinion you form would be biased. to be honest, i still have a hard time following this belief. i mean, you see it all the time, the rapper/gansta type guy with the riduculously baggy clothes and the rap BLARRING in his headphones for all to hear and... you just cant help but srhug him off as some stupid, to excuse the term, "wigger". but truth be told, you've never talked to the guy. you dont know what he's like. and thats what i have a hard time following. my mind is so quick to jump on the stereotype which is a bad way to go.
my point is, music doesnt make the person. its a taste, like food. you might as well say you can tell what kind of person you are by what you eat. which is another story... in conclusion ive met many a worthwhile persons who, in my opinion, listenned to crappy music just as ive met complete morons with good taste in music. go figure.
oh and one last comment on what tyler said... the part where when you tell a person what you're listenning to and they grimace, i dont necessarily think thats bad. i mean, it different if you get someone saying "EWWWWWWWW!!!! you listen to THAT?!?". thats judging. someone simply making a face or saying "ugh" or whatever, is, i think, more of an expression of opinion. it doesnt mean they are judging you, it simply means they dislike your music and are expressing it (as long as it isnt excessive).
anywyas, thats just the way i see it. maybe im way off *shrugs*
i went to see tegan and sara last night. they rocked. alot. but to be fair, they could have simply walked on stage and done a couple cartwheels and i would still be saying this. i spent WAY to much money yesterday. i need to cut back for a few weeks, im not exactly making bundles these days. but i did get a kickass t-shirt and cd out of it... even though i havent listenned to the cd yet.
today has already been maped out in detail:
karate, home to shower, eat and play kotor, then work, then hanging out with the cousins at their place for the lilsters birthday.
wooh!

Yeah Em, I agree with you. I guess I just hate being criticized for something that means so much to me, so when people make any sort of grimace or comment on my music I take incredible offence. But, that's just me, not everyone.
